Final Exam Warm-Up: Planning

For my final exam I have much excitement. I went out and bought a gopro and I am already in the process of getting footage, as well as photos using checked out DSLR camera, of different adventures I go on and I will put it all together to make a big creation of my life and what's been going on lately. I will show pictures and footage all mashed together with a song that fits the feel. I will throw it narration somewhere in there.

Opinions Story

The question of gun control is a hot topic in the U.S. currently due to the 2016 presidential campaign: should we place more or less guidelines in obtaining a gun in America? Well, if you ever watch the news at all and you don’t live in your own personal bubble, I’m sure you could understand that there is a pressing issue with the misuse of guns.
What is the proper use of guns though, really? Some people believe in sending our troops to war, hunting for sport, giving our police forces complete liberty to fire their arms whenever they feel necessary; but all of these things coincidentally end in the murder of living creatures.
You may call it liberal but I believe it is common sense. People that kill another living creature with no guilt, even enjoy it, is a more concerning topic than most people are willing to consider.
If people are unable to obtain guns then there are no guns to defend your self from. If the only individuals with guns are the ones with necessary purpose for them (such as police officers, secret service agents, etc.), then there would be less mass shootings, suicides by gun, and murders.
To anti-gun control individuals who use the 2nd amendment to the U.S. Constitution in defense of their stance: this amendment that states the right to bear arms was ratified in 1791. At a time when you could own slaves, women couldn’t work, and men were judged upon if they owned a lot of land or not. The ideals this nation was founded upon such as freedom and acceptance are relevant, but society has changed astronomically and the constitution can no longer be followed exactly.
Gun violence costs tax payers money through the cost of court cases and health care for those involved, so the use of guns affects every tax payer whether they think about the effect guns have on them or not.

With guns in your home, you can never be sure that they are safe from causing harm. If you have children, they can gain access to them and do wrong. Guns can be used in suicides if you have any family members who suffer from depression. If other people find out that you have guns, you can be robbed and they can be stolen from your home.
We are far too along in society to still be dealing with mass shootings, murders, and deaths in general. To change issues as large as this, precautions have to be taken.

Student of the Month Story

For the month of March, the staff of Bowie has chosen freshman Alina Hearn to be the student of the month. The staff considered all of the different candidates during their staff conferences over the last week. These measures were taken to ensure that the right student was being awarded this honor.
This student of the month award shows excellence and predicts a bright future. "I want to travel for a year after high school and then go to NYU," said Hearn.
Being able to do all your schoolwork and keeping up with your grades may not allow students to work a job; the student of the month rarely has time. That doesn't mean you don't have time to give back to the community though. "I volunteer by teaching kids about God," Hearn said.
Many might guess that music can have an effect on the quality of your work. Like if you listen to classical music it may allow you to use your brain more effectively, or maybe even other types of music. "I like to listen to rap music while I study," said Hearn.

School Uniforms

For my sources I could interview the superintendent of the school district, or I could interview two students that would have to deal with these changes: Douglas Smith and Harrison Louis.
1. What clothes would you miss wearing most when you are required to wear a uniform?
2. How do you feel about being told what to wear?
3. Will you obey without a struggle or will you continue to wear your own articles of clothing?
4. Why was this policy created?
5. What will the new student uniforms consist of?
6. Will the uniform be provided to students or will they have to purchase their own clothing items to match the criteria?

It seemed like the judges already had picked their winner beforehand, but they went back and did an overview of every photographer individually and after going over Dustin Snipes' portfolio, the winner was pretty clear.

Action Photos

Sensory Overload

1. I agree with this statement because it is true that we surround ourselves with the things we own in our personal lives and our personal environments wouldn't be the same without it. As a photographer I feel that taking pictures of the objects we surround ourselves with is just as important as taking photos of the earth.
2. As I looked through the images, I didn't really find an interest from a photography standpoint. I don't think I would want to take pictures of these things.
3. It would most likely be super exciting and fun for a child to have a parent that worked at one of these places.
4. My favorite photo out of these was the one of all the flowers. It is a pretty photo.

Front Pages of the World

1. My favorite newspaper front page out of the ones I saw was the Bakersfield Californian. I like this one because it has a big photo for the main story, similar to a magazine.
2. My favorite headline from this front page is "Pot shops still popping up". This is the most interesting out of the headlines because it isn't just simply a news story about something that happened, it could possibly be controversial and I like that.
3. There are 5 stories on the front page of this newspaper.
4. All of the different newspapers' front pages are similar with their headlines and pictures, but the sizes and styles vary.
5. Some of the newspapers, depending on where it is stationed, have a different vibe to them. For example, Hawaii has a groovy theme.

Magazine Cover Peer Review

1. The name of the magazine is Wander. Yana made this magazine.
2. The picture is cool and I like the title font.

4. I picked this cover because it was pretty cool.
5. There is a barcode and it is a good size.
6. I don't think I would pick this magazine up at Barnes & Noble, just because it doesn't catch my eye.
7. It looks like a portrait.

Prompt Shoot Peer Review

http://rebeccasphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com/2016/01/prompt-shoot-3.html

1. The photo I like the best out of these is connected. It just looks the most professional out of the four.
2. My least favorite of the photos would most likely be the photo of the sign. It's just not creative and was simply to fit the prompt before time ran out.
3. The photos are visually appealing and the angles that were chosen to take the pictures from were successful.
4. I am having a difficult time thinking of an area that this person could improve upon. These photos were pretty solid.
5. In my opinion, the picture of the chairs connected by the chain captures the prompt the best.
6. I think the picture that did the least effective job of capturing the prompt is the 'yummy' picture because the sign itself probably wouldn't be very tasteful.

Review of 2015

Favorite Photos of the Year
This photo is pretty touching because losing a father would be hard for anyone and you can really see the emotion from him just laying there with his face covered.
This photo really shows the awful reality of terrorists/shooters and I think it's amazing that this event was captured in a photo.
I think it is so rare that this person was in the exact right place at the exact right time because if they were further up the road, they would've been hit by the plane. If they left the house 1 minute later, they wouldn't have seen it. Also, they got their phone out in time to snap this photo? I just think it's pretty crazy how unlikely this photo is.
Best Songs of 2015
Bad Habits by FIDLAR;
Sandra's Smile by Blood Orange
Bad Habits is off of FIDLAR's second album which came out in 2015. I personally don't like their new album as much as their first, but this particular song is pretty dang good. Sandra's Smile is a single that Blood Orange released a couple months ago, which is going to be on his third LP coming soon! He is very into what's going on in the lives of young African Americans and this song is about a young woman who was wrongly killed.
Best Movies of 2015
6 Years;
Dope
6 Years is a movie that was put on Netflix a couple months back and I'm pretty sure it skipped the theaters, but I really liked it for its cinematography, the love story in it, and it was also very sad and for some reason I like sad movies. I saw Dope in theaters and going into it I didn't expect much, but it was a very good movie and I think it had a good message.

My Break
1. Something during my break that I will remember, is eating Chinese food on Christmas day. I thought it was kind of funny because Christmas is supposed to be this big thing but it just felt like some other day.
2. My resolutions for the year 2016 are pretty much just to enjoy myself more. I did not really make any official resolutions because personally, I think a bunch of people making resolutions and carrying them out for under a week is pretty ridiculous.
3. In 2016, I am looking forward to turning 18, to finding more music and movies, and changing my life a bit.
